The Opening ceremony for 2010 Qiming School new students and the inauguration of Leungsheng Building was held on the morning of Oct 10. 446 students are admitted into Qiming School this year. Mr Leung Leungsheng, C-BONS Group Board Chairman and permanent honorary dean of Qiming School, and HUST President Li Peigen attended the ceremony.
Prof Li said, Qiming is an innovative pilot school for national talents fostering, and also a pilot school for HUST to cultivate top notch innovative talents. Liangsheng Building provides an advantageous environment for the reform and development of Qiming's innovative education.
Meanwhile, the first stars of Qiming were awarded to 8 students. Mr Leung mentioned the first eight stars of Qiming have proved it right to cultivate innovative talents with social responsibility and global perspective. These stars set us good examples. He urged new students to actively take part in practice and research in a bid to be future stars of Qiming.
Qiming school, jointly developed by HUST and C-BONS, was launched in Sep 2008 with a fund of 22 million HKD contributed by Mr Leung. Qiming is an independent school directly under the administration of the university.
In terms of students candidates, undergraduates with innovative awareness and practical abilities are selected into Qiming. Students can also win the chance through university entrance selection. Now there are 14 experimental classes, 19 scientific innovative teams and all the distinct students are admitted into the School.
