Pancreatic Disease Research Institute Founded in Union Hospital

On June 16, the Pancreatic Surgical Center of the Union Hospital was upgraded to the Pancreatic Disease Research Institute, which was said the biggest pancreatic disease research organization in China now.



The origin of the Pancreatic Surgical Center of the Union Hospital was a specialized group for diagnosing and treating pancreatic disease of the Department of General Surgery of the Union Hospital founded in 1996. At that time, it has one professor, two doctors-in-charge, and 6 beds. Over forty patients were able to be treated annually. In 2000, the Pancreatic Surgical Center was set up. Having developed for 10 years, there are two professors and six associated professors working in the center, and it is equipped with 50 beds, hemofiltration machine, life support machine, multi-function health inspecting apparatus, color ultrasonic machine, ERCP, etc. More than 1100 patients receive medical service here every year.



The center focuses on the SAP treatment, the early-stage treatment of pancreatic neoplasm, and the chronic pancreatitis treatment. They initiated the duodenum preserved total pancreatic head resection, which was improved from the operation model by Prof. Beger of Germany who was the initiator of chronic pancreatitis operation.



The Pancreatic Disease Research Institute has under it clinical pancreatic surgery center, pancreatic ICU, imaging endoscope room and lab.
