Nanjing University Scholars Win 2009 State Science, Technology Awards

Scholars at Nanjing University (NJU) have been well recognized with three second-class awards under the 2009 State Science and Technology Awards (SSTAs) announced on January 11.
The three SSTAs awards are for the categories of State Natural Science Award (SNSA), State Technological Invention Award (STIA) and State Scientific and Technological Progress Award (SSTPA).
Prof. Tan Renxiang of the School of Life Science received the second-class State Natural Science Award for his project entitled "An Research into the Ingredients of Several Important Medicinal Plants."

The NJU recipient of the State Technological Invention Award 2nd Level was Prof. Ren Hongqiang of the School of the Environment. His winning project has played an important role in wastewater treatment at chemical industry parks.

The second-class State Scientific and Technological Progress Award was conferred on a project entitled "Clinical Treatment of Spinal Deformities and Related Research" led by Prof. Qiu Yong of the Medical School.

The State Science and Technology Awards (SSTAs), initiated by the State Council of the People`s Republic of China, aim to reward citizens and organizations that have made outstanding contributions in scientific and technological progress activities. There are five categories for the SSTAs: State Pre-eminent Science and Technology Award, State Natural Science Award, State Technological Invention Award, State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award.
