On May 17, 2010, a four-member Canadian delegation consisting of Dr. Alice Wong, a Canadian Parliament Member and Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism, Dr. Chak-Kwong Au, Vice Mayor of Richmond City, British Columbia, Canada, etc. made a special trip to Jiangnan University. President Chen Jian, Vice-President Wang Wu warmly welcomed the delegation and briefed the guests on construction of the new campus and the university's overall development, and discussed student exchange programs between Jiangnan University and four higher institutions in Richmond.
Dr. Alice Wong, once helped Jiangnan University cooperate with Canada Marina TringTechnical University and Vancouver Community College, and successfully apply two Sino-Canadian cooperation programs funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA): Women in Enterprise Management (1996-2000) and Building of Human Resources Infrastructure in Southwest China & Employment Development Intellectual Assistance Projects(2000-2005).
Through these projects, more than 10 young teachers from Business School have had the opportunity to receive further education and training in Canada, which effectively improved the quality of teaching staff in Jiangnan University.
Dr. Alice Wong was invited to teach at Jiangnan University during the school year 1993 to 1994. She offered courses like Business English and International Trade for students of Business School and offered the course of Academic English for PhD candidates. Since then she has lectured in Wuxi on many occasions, and was appointed as Visiting Professor of Jiangnan University.
Because of her positive contributions and outstanding services to Sino-Canadian cultural exchange, especially to higher education and cultural exchange between Jiangnan University and colleges in the Province of British Columbia, Dr. Alice Wong was honored with the "Friendship Award for Foreign Experts" from Jiangsu Provincial Government.
