On May 17th, Dr. Peter Freiss, Scienctific and Policy Officer of Network Enterprise & Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and European Commission Information Society and Media Directorate-General, visited School of IoT Engineering of Jiangnan University, and was warmly received by Vice President Wang Wu. In November of 2009, he once participated in the international summit on Wireless Technology World and Internet of Things in Beijing and this time, under the invitation of Shanghai World Expo, he came to China to give a lecture on Internet of Things.
Dr. Preiss, in the company of Gu Xiaofeng, vice dean of School of IoT Engineering, visited the laboratories of the School. Professor Xu Baoguo demonstrated to Dr. Freiss the Monitoring System of Wireless Sensor Networks Infrared Animal Sound which is designed by the laboratory. The system combines the technology of infrared heat release and sensor networks, realizing the testing of anything that releases heat in the controlled areas, including personnel and animals.
And then through wireless communication, the system collects data and reports them, thus achieving the corresponding functions of counting statistics, forecasting and alarming, etc. Afterwards, Dr. Freiss visited the laboratories of Professor Peng Li and Professor Liu Guodong.
Subsequently, Dr. Freiss delivered an excellent lecture on the topic of "Internet of Things for @ Wiser Planet - Shaping the future together" to the teachers and students of School of IoT Engineering. He introduced the current development situation and technology level of Internet of Things, and the development trend of China's Internet of Things technology as well.
After the lecture, Dr. Freiss had an informal discussion with part of the professors and graduate students of School of IoT Engineering, who actively expressed their views on the development of Internet of Things technology, and exchanged ideas with Dr. Freiss. Meanwhile, they expressed their hope of conducting deeper academic discussions with Dr.
Freiss.
The visit by Dr. Peter Freiss was to help him to have a rough idea about School of IoT Engineering at Jiangnan University and the development situation of Internet of Things technology in Wuxi. Those in accompany of Dr. Freiss were Dr. Zhang Lin from Tsinghua University, the only Chinese commissary of Wireless Sensor Networks International Agreements Standard Committee, and Dr. Gray Yang from Cisco China.
