Prof. Lloyd B. Minor, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of the Johns Hopkins University, visited Nanjing University (NJU) on January 4. Nanjing University Chancellor Hong Yinxing and President Chen Jun met with Prof. Lloyd B. Minor and exchanged ideas on how to extend future cooperation between the two universities.
Prof. Lloyd B. Minor expressed his hope that the two universities can make use of their successful experience of running the Johns Hopkins University-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies and explore new areas of cooperation.
Chancellor Hong Yinxing suggested opening up cooperation in the fields of environmental science, public health, bioenergy and biopharmacy.
President Chen Jun briefed Prof. Lloyd B. Minor on NJU s new campus construction, interdisciplinary research and reform of undergraduate education. President Chen hoped that the Johns Hopkins University would support NJU in its development of medical and engineering disciplines.
Prof. Lloyd B. Minor also discussed cooperation proposals with representatives from NJU s School of the Environment, School of Business, and the newly founded School of Electronic Science and Engineering.
Nanjing University and the Johns Hopkins University jointly established the Hopkins Nanjing Center in 1986 with the mission "to develop and train professionals to provide leadership in managing successful bilateral and multilateral relationships involving China and the West in an increasingly complex international environment.
