On May 15, 2010 China Rural Economic Forum was launched in Chongqing Municipality. Experts on the issues of agriculture, rural areas, and farmers gathered to share their insight into the coordination of urban and rural development. On the opening ceremony, Bo Xilai, Secretary of theChongqing Municipal Party Committee of CPC and Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture addressed the forum.
This forum was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Chongqing Municipal Government, with the theme of coordinating urban and rural economic and social development as well as coordinating industrialization, urbanization, and agricultural modernization, aimed at reviewing and sharing best practices of coordination of urban and rural development from home and abroad, raising suggestions for the formulation of the 12th Five-Year Plan, and providing references to the coordinated development in Chongqing and China.
Minister Han Changfu congratulated on the convening of the forum and thanked the Party Committee of Chongqing Municipality and Chongqing Municipal Government for their great support. He said that the coordination of urban and rural development was an important measure to speed up the shift of development pattern and promote the development of science; the theme of this forum was coordination of urban and rural development, which would provide guidance for us.
Bo Xilai said that many agricultural experts gathered in this forum, with high-level and great representation in the country; it was bound to achieve productive results. To increase the income of farmers and coordinate urban and rural development was meaningful to China and the world at large. Recently, Chongqing has made great effort in selecting plant varieties, industrial development, and improving circulating system. This will help poor farmers to increase their average income by 10,000 yuan in three years.
