Chinese market open for Maroccan citrus

Write: Ronin [2011-05-20]
From now on, Moroccan growers can export citrus to the Chinese market. The opening is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, marine industry professionals and the National Council for Food Safety (ONSSA). Both countries have agreed on the phytosanitary requirements so that the Moroccan citrus will be allowed to be exported the Chinese market.
The agreement includes an adjustment of the export registration procedures and strengthening the supervision of orchards. There is a list of Moroccan farms who meet the demands of the Chinese market. In the year 2010 the citrus varieties of 18 orchards have been approved, these are mainly clementines and Moroccan Late variety.
For the year 2011 all interested Moroccan growers can contact ONSSA. There is also more information about the procedure on the counsel's website. The opening of the Chinese market offers Moroccan growers many chances. At the moment there is not much trade between the two countries, Morocco also exports strawberries and medicinal herbs to China
