VICTORIAN stone fruit growers will soon have access to the Taiwanese market five years after they were locked out.
Summerfruit Australia chief executive John Moore said the ban was lifted on white-flesh peaches, nectarines, and cherries, but not plums.
Mr Moore said quarantine protocols had been agreed, but were in the process of being translated from Chinese to English and the final version was not yet available from Biosecurity Australia.
Mr Moore said the same quarantine requirements, which include pre-export cold de-infestation treatment or in-transit cold treatment, would apply to the export of stonefruit as well as citrus, table grapes, kiwi fruit and cherries from areas where fruit fly was present.
The ban led to local oversupply and a price slump, which hit growers hard.
Swan Hill Summerfruits Development Association president Michael Tripodi said it was wonderful news for growers, who had endured several bad years.
