An exhibition of Yang Jichuan s calligraphic works entitled Loved historical literature is currently on display at Hall until Sept. 16.
The exhibition comprises a loan of 89 works with the theme of the Chinese historic literatures dating back to the Warring States and down to the modern time. Most of them are about beautiful countries chanted by founding fathers, philosophy of life full of pride, emotion, and idea, and fresh, beautiful, tranquil, and relaxing pastoral life, including poems, songs, essays, aphorisms, and saying.
The work has eight-chi (about 2.667 meter) central scrolls and stripped screens as the main part. The author presents a variety of calligraphic categories including the regular script, the cursive script, the official script, and the seal character and different patterns of manifestation such as changes of layout, style, paper and ink.
The exhibition is to provide fresh and spectacular visual feast and impact to people and also show the artist s skill and his broad vision, mind and tolerance.
Born in 1941 in Yixing, Jiangsu province, Yang Jichuan is member of Chinese Calligraphers Association. Influenced by his father and grandfather, he started learning calligraphy since childhood. He was accomplished in various scripts especially in huge-sized scrolls. His works boast strength and magnificence. The artist has also made a contribution to promoting artistic exchange with foreign countries and the cause of charity.
