Read Chinese Classics and Express Love for the Motherland the Second College Chinese Classics Reading Contest was Held in ZSTU

On the afternoon of Nov. 11th, the second College Chinese Classics Reading Contest (Final) was held in the theatre of the ZSTU International Exhibition and Convention Center. Deputy Director-general of Zhejiang Department of Education, Han Ping, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Youth League Committee, Miao Weilun, Vice Director of Division of Press and Publication of the Provincial Ministry of Propaganda, Zhao Gang,Head of Division of General Affairs of the Provincial Public Security Department, Ni Jianhai, Head of Personnel and Education of the Provincial Administration of Radio Film and Television, Head of the Juvenile Department of Provincial Youth League Committee, Lao Xiaoxiao, Office Director of Provincial Language Committee and Director of Language Administration of Zhejiang Department of Education, Li Jianzhang, Head of Zhejiang Reporter Station of China Education Daily, Zhu Zhenyue and Party Secretary of ZSTU, Fei Junqing, Vice Party Secretary, Cheng Gang and Vice President, Chen Jianyong attended the contest and presented awards to the winners.

In order to further promote language and writing standardization, the Ministry of Education and National Language Committee officially launched the program of Chinese Classics Reading aiming to inherit and uphold traditional Chinese culture. The program, with the standard Chinese spoken and written Language and Chinese classics as the carrier, intended to improve people s language standards, popularize the application of the standard Chinese spoken and written Language mandarin and standard Chinese characters in the society, stimulate people s love for Chinese language and fine traditions of Chinese culture, increase the pride in Chinese nation and confidence in Chinese culture. The reading of Chinese classics in the whole society can enhance the understanding of the nation s spirits and fine traditions by people, especially by teenagers and young people. A close contact with the Chinese classics develops the love for Chinese culture which is then promoted, integrated and innovated.

This contest received more than sixty entries and seventeen works entered the final after carefully assessed by experts of the jury. The final contestants delivered their works and conveyed different emotions on the stage and kindled the audience s love for the motherland.

With the fair judgment at the scene, Praise and Re-boost Traditional Chinese Medicine by Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Spring reminds me of from ZSTU, My Country, My Language from Wenzhou University, Song of the Motherland from Zhejiang Normal University won the golden prizes of the Chinese Student Category. Ode to Yellow River from ZhejiangChineseMedicalUniversity won the golden prize of the Overseas Student Category y.

So far there have been two Chinese Classics Reading Contests which both had positive social influences and effects. The program has become a well-accepted cultural brand to both refined and popular tastes. It develops the teachers and students abilities to read, act and organize, enhance their patriotism, senses of pride, responsibility and mission and will remain a popular language activity in colleges and universities. This contest, divided into Chinese student and overseas student categories, was held by Provincial Language Committee and Provincial Department of Education and sponsored by ZSTU with the Organizing Committee Office set up in the College of Culture and Communication.
