Teaching Reform on Reading and Writing - Asian International Forum Was Held in CNU

The forum was jointly sponsored by the International Reading Association (IRA) and IDACand undertaken by College of Foreign Language and the College of Primary Education of the Capital Normal University (CNU), gathering a total of more than 120 experts and teachers in the fields of reading and language teaching from 8 countries and regions of the international community. As a grand transnational academic occasion crossing different associations, regions and languages, the present forum is also a representation of concern of the IRA to the reading and writing teaching reform and development of basic education in the Chinese mainland. Representatives of the forum will deliver their speeches in English and Chinese respectively in two meeting places focusing on the theme of this forum: New Asia, New Reading and Writing New Reading and Writing Teaching Movement for Establishing a Lively and Harmonious Asia and also read out their research papers by groups according to the following five subtopics: Reading Comprehension , Reading and Writing Study and Disciplinary Knowledge Reading , Activity and Community Reading and Writing Activities , Teachers Development and Multimedia Reading and Writing Curriculum , and Youth Literature and Reading and Writing Ability Cultivation etc. To the English major undergraduates of the CNU participating in the service and performance, the present forum will be a real practical field experience and will enable them to fully understand the importance of mastering the English language, especially getting familiar with the different intonations of the English language of various countries in the world. (Madam) Rita M Bean, Director of IRA speaks highly of CNU s endeavor on the cultivation of teachers, expressing that the present direct contact with the Chinese teachers and students will be an unforgettable experience. IDAC President Liang Changcheng declares that the forum has been a great success. At the same time, Mr. Liang also expresses that within his term, he will complete registration of the Chinese Language Reading Research Association in the academic organization of IRA.
