As the School of Architecture was celebrating its 30th birthday, good news came from Germany that Foshan Century Lotus Sports Center, which is collaboratively designed by Architectural Design & Research Institute of SCUT and Germany GMP International Architectural Design Company, won the silver prize of IOC/IAKS award for exemplary sports and leisure facilities. The award ceremony was held on Oct. 30 in Cologne, Germany. Prof. SUN Yimin, one of the chief architects, received on behalf of SCUT the certificate and the medal from Mr. Craven, president of the International Paralympic Committee. IOC/IAKS award is jointly sponsored by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS), and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Every two years since four decades ago, the IOC/IAKS award has been offered to commend sports facilities of exemplary design and function. Approved by its President Mr. Rogge, the award is the only international architecture prize for sports and leisure facilities recognized by IOC.
