The newest generation of eye-catching environmentally friendly diesel locomotive-Hexie 5 HXN5 was produced by CSR on November 25. This is the most powerful AC drive diesel locomotive in China.

On the completion ceremony of the diesel locomotive in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province on November 25, Zhang Shuguang, Deputy Chief Engineer of Ministry of Railways and Director of Bureau of Transportation Zheng Changhong, President of CSR and Fan Yanqing, Secretary of Changzhou Municipal Party Committee expressed their congratulations and made a speech. They cut the ribbon at the ceremony for the production of the new diesel locomotive.

In compliance with the general planning that introduce advance technologies, jointly design and produce and establish China national brand stipulated by the State Council and under the organization and coordination of the Ministry of Railways, CSR Qishuyan Locomotive Co., Ltd. and GE jointly developed the most powerful AC drive diesel locomotive, indicating that China s railway equipment industry move to a new stage.

It is a successful fulfillment of introduction, assimilation, absorption and re-renovation . This locomotive will be widely used as a leading diesel locomotive for freight transport on China s railway main lines.

The best edge of Hexie 5-tpye locomotive is the lower discharge and better energy-saving capabilities compared with the similar products in the world. It also meets American Tier 2 standard. Therefore, it is praised as a new favorite for energy-saving and discharge-reducing and regarded as the newest environmentally friendly product. In accordance with the contract signed with the Ministry of Railways in 2005, CSR will provide 300 Hexie 5-tpye locomotives for China s railways and it will be put into mass production in 2009.

Hexie 5-tpye locomotive is provided with high power IGBT converter with a rated power of 4,660kW. The maximum starting tractive effort is 620kN, the highest running speed and the constant power speed is 120km/h. Modular design, outside corridor and underframe supporting structure are applied. Because the axle load of this locomotive is 25t, it is favorable for manufacturing, assembly and scale production.

Furthermore, it boosts of excellent function against idle running and non-skid function, high efficiency of the wheel periphery, high rate of adhension usage, fast starting speed, good dynamic performance and braking performance. All the major technical and economic indicators reach the international advanced level.

It is learned that the faster development of China s railway industry during the eleventh five-year-plan period need abundant modern and new-type facilities meeting the requirement of being advanced, mature, economic, suitable and reliable . China s railway industry will aggressively develop the passenger dedicated lines.

At the same time, freight capacity of the present lines will be raised as well, thus the demand for heavy duty freight locomotives and increase steadily. As a new generation of locomotive with outstanding environmental protection performance, Hexie 5-tpye locomotive will be become the dominant freight diesel locomotive along the mainline railway of China.
