Prof. Pinghua Liu of Boston University in DICP

Prof. Liu was invited to DICP to deliver a specific lecture as part of the celebrating activities in the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the institute. On 4th August, Prof. Liu presented a lecture with the title of "Natural Product Chemistry in Post-Genomic Era: Metabolomes and Synthetic Biology" at the lecture-venue of the Bio-Tech Building of DICP.

In his lecture, Prof. Liu first introduced the generality of the existence of natural products in biological bodies, especially for the isoprenoids, and their values in the R&D of medicines. Then, by illustrating with the research work of himself, he talked on the mechanism of bio-synthesis of isoprenoids, as well as studies on the metabolic engineering of certain drugs from bio-synthetic isoprenoids.

Finally, he introduced new vaccines developed by modern means of genomics and metabolomics.

The lecturing session was chaired by Prof. ZHAO Zongbao of DICP. After the lecture, Prof. Zhao presented to Prof. Liu an Honorary Lecture Certificate in Memory of the 60th Anniversary of DICP on behalf of the institute.
