More than 220 young migrant workers from Guangdong Province attended an enrollment examination held in Shenzhen on Saturday, hoping to receive free remote education from Beijing University.
The migrant workers were mainly from Shenzhen, Dongguan, Huizhou and Heyuan and each worker had to choose three subjects from among Chinese, mathematics, English, politics, administration management and accounting, the city s committee of the Communist Youth League of China said Saturday.
More than 1,715 migrant workers aged between 18 and 25 in Guangdong Province attended examinations held in eight cities across the province. The examinations were organized by Beijing University, one of the country s top universities, aiming at helping young migrant workers receive higher education.
A total of 343 workers with outstanding performances in the examinations will be offered the chance for an interview. The first-round interview will be held online March 20, while the second-round interview will be conducted face-to-face March 26.
The first 100 workers who passed the examinations and interviews will receive the university s remote education for free, while the rest will have to pay only half of the tuition fees. They will get bachelor s degrees issued by the university after graduation, the committee said.
