Construction of eight inter-city expressways will top the agenda for Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou governments this year to realize the goal of a seamless transport integration in the three cities, a meeting was told Monday.
The meeting, attended by top officials of the communication departments of the three cities, also unveiled for the first time an outline of the transport integration, which mapped a future one-hour commuting circle between the three cities on the eastern bank of the Pearl River.
The eight expressways, most of which are under construction, are Yanba Expressway in Shenzhen to link Huizhou in the east, Guangzhou-Shenzhen Yanjiang Expressway to link Dongguan in the west, Qingping Expressway Phase II, Eastern expressway to link Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The starting point in Futian would be 13 km from Metro Line 12, which will run to Kengzi in Longgang District.
In addition, the renovation of the Huizhou section of the Shenhui Road will start this year and be completed by 2012. The 23-kilometer section is designed to have six lanes with a maximum speed of 60 km/h, at a cost of 840 million yuan (US$124 million).
The Guangzhou and Dongguan sections of the 88.08-kilometer Guangzhou-Shenzhen Yanjiang Expressway were expected to open at the end of the year.
