About 15,000 people including city leaders, students, enterprises staffs and people of all circles welcomed the New Year with the annual charity run, which was held on Jan. 6 in Dongguan.
The runners set off from the Sports Centre Square at 8:50 am, jogging through Shenghe Road, Hongfu Road, Shizhu Road, and finally arrived at the city's Main Administrative Centre, covering a distance of about 3 kilometers. The New Year charity run was also held in some townships and districts in the city. Meanwhile, charitable donations were accepted throughout the city.. Half of the raised money has been remitted to the city's Charity Association while the other half to the city's Red Cross Society.
Since 1984, the New Year Charity Run has become a classical public sports event for Dongguan people. With an increase of charity donation activities, it is more than just a sporting event. Its new year-welcoming theme also symbolizes the optimistic character of Dongguan people.
