On November 17, 2010, a reception for celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Chile was given at Shangri-la Hotel in Beijing by the Chilean Embassy. Over 300 people from the political and business circles from China and Chile were invited to the reception. VP Steven Zhou of Sany Heavy Industry was personally received by the Chilean President Sebastian Pinera who was on a state visit to China. VP Zhou presented as a gift to the President a model of the crawler crane that was chosen for the rescue of the trapped Chilean miners this October.
Chile is the first country to establish diplomatic ties with China in South America. State Councilor Liu Yandong said at the reception that the Chinese Government would further deepen an all-round bilateral partnership together with the Chilean Government to benefit people in both countries more. President Pinera remarked that his government is willing to work together with the Chinese Government to further consolidate and strengthen the Sino-Chilean cooperative partnership.
President Pinera said that the Chilean Government would build a museum to commemorate the successful rescue of the trapped miners in October this year and that he would give the Sany crane model to the museum.
Heng Hao, the service engineer of Sany who joined in the rescue work was also invited to the reception. At the request of Hao, the President signed a photo of Hao taken at the rescue site.
President Sebastian Pinera arrived in Beijing on November 15 for a three-day state visit to China. This is his first visit to China since his inauguration in March. On November 16, the President convened in Beijing a forum titled Chile a Nation of Opportunities and Hao was also invited. With years of experiences of working in Chile, Hao said that Chile boasted rich resources, a splendid culture and high efficiency.
At present, Chile is stepping up on its infrastructure construction. The reconstruction project due to the February earthquake added to the scale of the construction program. This provides an opportunity to the industry of construction machinery and Sany will have an important part to play in this process.
