During the golden autumn, to the accompaniment of melodious music, Dalian Night , a wonderful party for the participants of Summer Davos , was held in Tianjin at 7:00 last night. Delegates from various countries kept pouring in for the performance, making the Dalian Night an important event of Summer Davos with its vitality and internationalism.
He Yafei, Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Zhang Xiaoqiang, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, Ren Xuefeng, vice mayor of Tianjin, Liu Changle, board chairman of Phoenix TV, Dandong Party Secretary Dai Yulin, and more than 200 other political leaders, economists, social activists, heads of international economic institutions and leaders from world renowned enterprises attended the party. Yao Jiakai, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Dalian Committee and Party secretary of Jinzhou New Area CCP Affairs Work Committee, and Dong Chengfa, director of the Administrative Committee of Dalian Huayuankou Economic Zone, also attended the party. Cao Aihua, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Dalian Committee and vice mayor, presided over it.
Dalian Party secretary Xia Deren made an address. He proposed a special thanks to Prof. Schwab for his wisdom and foresight in shifting the WEF from Europe to China in 2007 and for his efforts to provide Dalian a chance to host the first Summer Davos in Dalian in 2007. Last year, at the most crucial time of the financial crisis, Dalian hosted the 3rd Summer Davos , during which Dalian made a deep impression on the participants with its sound and rapid development momentum and wonderful city image, inspiring people to dream of a bright future with great confidence.
Hosting the Summer Davos twice has formed a comprehensive and strategic partnership between Dalian and WEF. Dalian and a large number of growing enterprises in Northeast China have joined this large family--the World Economic Forum, gaining more opportunities for cooperation between the two. For the last few years, partly as a benefit from hosting "Summer Davos" in Dalian, Dalian has maintained a 16% economic growth rate and a higher degree of opening-up. Listening to Premier Wen Jiabao s wonderful speech at the opening ceremony, we believe that we must continue to adhere unswervingly to the policy of reform and opening-up, which is the only way to invigorate China and to keep open it up. Therefore, Dalian will further increase cooperation with the WEF, and is ready to make contributions to its future development in China.
In his speech, Chairman Schwab of the WEF said that sincere cooperation and solid friendship between Dalian and WEF helped to bring about two successful annual meetings of the new champions in Dalian. I should offer my thanks to Party secretary Xia Deren and his team in particular. We hope that we can make a contribution to Dalian s development through the annual meetings as well.
Dalian entrepreneurs, who once had no idea how to deal with foreign enterprises and who now deeply understand the essential connotation of Davos , were more comfortable and found it easier to make exchanges and to get acquainted with their old or new business partners at Dalian Night . They believed that it was easier to gain the trust of international enterprises here at the meeting and more reliably create their follow-up cooperation.
