On December 20, a group from four ministries Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Ministry of Civil Affairs, the China National Committee on Ageing and the China Foundation for Disabled Persons came to Dalian for inspection and acceptance of Dalian s creation of a national barrier-free city . After listening to the work report, the group made a field study, visited disabled families and took buses. They believe that Dalian is very likely to become a national barrier-free city with its prominent features and remarkable achievements. Vice Mayor Zhang Jun met with the group.
The group made a field visit of Dalian Social Welfare Institute, Dalian Hospital of Dermatology, Dalian Municipal Library, Dalian Swimming Pool and Superior Xinghai Residence; took buses equipped with voice-guided instruments; and paid visits to disabled families in Tiger Beach Neighborhood, Zhongshan District. They said that Dalian has acquired achievements in the construction of barrier-free facilities with great efforts, more input, close attention from leadership, transparent accountability, complete institutional policies and higher public awareness. Dalian is very likely to become a national barrier-free city with its prominent features and remarkable achievements in the construction of barrier-free homes, barrier-free information, barrier-free public facilities, etc.
Dalian started barrier-free construction early in the 1980s. In February of 2005, Dalian was named a NationalDemonstrationCity for Barrier-free Facilities by these four ministries. In 2007, Dalian and Wafangdian applied for creating national barrier-free cities.
