National Major Historical Themes Art Exhibition Tour in Dalian

The Birth of New China, Najing in December of 1937, the First Political Consultative Conference, the Million Strong Mighty Army Has Crossed the Great River, these magnificent and huge paintings with clear-cut themes hung in the central lobby of the Dalian Modern Museum have greatly attracted and inspired artists, citizens and students at the exhibition. Yesterday afternoon, the National Major Historical Themes Art Exhibition Tour opened in Dalian, so that people can enjoy and appreciate national-level works of art near their home. Gao Shuxun, member of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Culture and assistant to the minister, and municipal leaders Li Jingrui, Yuan Keli, Tian Shujun, Zhu Chengqing, Wang Yibo and Li Can were present at the ceremony.
On behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Gao extended his warm congratulations on the exhibition and said that the National Major Historical Themes Art Exhibition is a large theme program supported and guided by the Central Propaganda Department and jointly implemented by both the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Finance over 5 years. In a combination of the creations of old, middle-aged and young artists, the paintings depict and reflect major historical events about China s anti-imperialist, anti-feudal, anti-colonial struggles and the socialist revolution since 1840 in various art forms such as Chinese painting, oil-painting, and sculpture, representing the highest level of thematic artistic creation. He believes that the exhibition will bring Dalian people an exciting visual experience and expects that more visitors will share the results of the program through the exhibition so that these theme art works will play a better social benefit role.

Vice Mayor Zhu Chengqing said in her speech that this significant free public exhibition is an important part of the tangible things the Municipal Government promised the citizens. Through the positive striving of the Dalian Party Committee and the Dalian Municipal Government, and the great support of its organizers, the exhibition will play a positive role in further improving the public s art appreciation and creation, enhancing Dalian s cultural soft power and building Dalian into a renowned cultural city.
The exhibition of 81 art works including 22 Chinese paintings, 47 oil-paintings and 12 sculptures will last two months in Dalian. At the ceremony, Gu Gang, professor from the College of Fine Arts of Liaoning Normal University and the only artist from Dalian whose works were selected for the exhibition, gave a talk about his creation.
