March 30 - Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. This year, over one billion people participated in this activity. What about our college students?
At 8:00 p.m., March 27th, volunteers from Green Pioneer Environmental Protection Association of GDUFS began to call on students to turn off the lights at 8:30 p.m. Volunteers started chanting their slogan and asked people to join in the countdown. In respond, most students switched their lights off from 8:30 to 9:30. During Earth Hour various energy saving activities were organized, such as cycling or group chatting.
