November 24, 2010 Students in Changzhou University s School of International Education & Exchange (SIEE) are just weeks away from taking part in the testing and interviews which will determine whether they will be accepted in to Canada s, St. Francis Xavier University.
The first in a series of lectures to help SIEE students excel in English interviews was offered Wednesday evening by Oliver Neufeld. Oliver has been teaching business courses to SIEE students for over 4 years and is an expert in public speaking and the development of professional skills.
He tells students the value of preparing well, saying: failing to prepare is preparing to fail . The lecture covered topics including what questions to be prepared to answer, how to dress for success , and making a good first impression. Oliver reminds students that the first impression is often the final decision .
Proficiency in English is a key requirement for study abroad and a student s ability to demonstrate their oral English skill is one of the most difficult tasks for Chinese students.
With the pressure mounting, the foreign teachers of Changzhou University are stepping up their efforts to prepare students for the challenge of participating in interviews which test English proficiency.
The next lecture will be held a week later and will explain to students the format and scoring methodology used in English speaking proficiency testing.
