From October 20 to 23, Organized by Shanghai Maritime University and Hato-kai, Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Japan, Sino-Japan Photo Exhibition on Seafarers Life was held in SMU Libarary. The theme was Go to Sea which had been proposed by UN International Maritime Organization.
On October 20, Mr. Ookubo Kaoru, Vice Chairman of Hato-kai, Dr. Awni Behnam, UN Commissioner General at Expo 2010 and President of International Ocean Institute, Prof. Malek Pourzanjani, IMLA Honarary Chairman and President of Australian Maritime College, Mr. Miao Hongde, Deputy Director General of the International Department of China Ministry of Transport, Mr. Sang Shiliang, Secretary General of Shanghai Navigation Society, Prof. Yu Shicheng, SMU President, as well as over 80 participants of IMLA 18 witnessed the Opening of Photo Exhibition.
SMU President Yu pointed out in his welcoming speech, that as seafarers have contributed a lot to the spread of human civilization and the promotion of global economy and trade, the year 2010 is dedicated to them as The Year of the Seafarer . In this exhibition, most of the photos were taken by Chinese and Japanese seafarers during their life, work and travel around the world, representing the friendship among people of all nations.
Mr. Ookubo Kaoru read the Congratulation Letter from Mr. Ikeda Daisaku, Honorary Chairman of SGI. Secretary General of Shanghai Navigation Society Mr. Sang Shiliang delivered a speech of congratulation.
Mr. Ookubo Kaoru, Dr. Awni Behnam, Prof. Malek Pourzanjani and President Yu Shicheng, cut the ribbon to open the Photo Exhibition.
Many students and faculties were attracted by the four-day exhibition which gave them a visual experience on charming oceanic culture and colorful seafarers life.
