Effectively demonstrating the academic features and technical strengths of Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT), five costume designs by art faculty members of BIFT for the Beijing 2008 Olympics and Paralympics were successful in the competitive tender for the events costume design, held by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The five successful awards were: 1) unique uniforms for each of the official staff, the volunteer group, and the technical personnel; 2) active attire for the Olympic torchbearers; 3) a series of three styles of cheongsam, in blue-and-white porcelain pattern, for medal ceremony hostesses, including one for tray bearers, one for medal presenter escorts, and one for athlete escorts; 4) the victory-podium uniform for Chinese medalists; and 5) the march-in ceremony uniform for Chinese Paralympic athletes. All of the five costume designs reflected the luster and glorious reputation of this global sporting event and its host city. These superb costume designs have popularized exotic Chinese cultural elements world wide.
