On June 2, at the special invitation of President Torbjorn Digernes of Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), NPU President Jiang Chengyu attended the reception of the Chinese partner universities held in Beijing by NTNU and addressed the reception on behalf of the Chinese universities. The reception was held at the Centennial Lecture Hall of Peking University and attended by the Norwegian ambassador in Beijing, 50 delegates of NTNU and the representatives of its Chinese partner universities.
The two universities reached consensus on promoting profound and comprehensive cooperation and, in particular, held in-depth discussions on educational cooperation programs. They have decided to cooperate in educating PhD candidates and 3+2 years' Master's degree graduate students. Also present at the reception were Wan Xiaopeng, director of the Office for Teaching Affairs and Sun Yu, deputy director of the Office for International Cooperation. The reception enhances the friendship and mutual understanding of the two universities.
NTNU has strong research capability for ship and marine engineering, energy, materials science and other disciplines. Academician Ma Yuanliang and his research team in School of Marine Engineering at NPU are doing fruitful research cooperation in the area of underwater acoustics with the professors of IT, mathematics and mechatronics from NTNU. Owing to their good cooperation foundation the two universities signed their cooperation agreements in 2008.
