On April 27 Academician Ye Peijian, China's chief specialist in space science and deep space exploration, general designer and commander in chief of Resource No. 2 Satellite and Chang'e No. 1 Satellite, general design consultant and general command consultant of Chang'e No. 2 Satellite and Chang'e No.
3 Satellite, delivered on Chang'an campus a wonderful presentation on Chang'e No. 1 Satellite and China's deep space exploration. Present at the presentation were Wang Yubo, director of Student Affairs Division, Zhu Daowu, Party secretary of College of Astronautics, Zhou Jun, dean of College of Astronautics and over 1500 teachers and students.
Academician Ye Peijian began his presentation by asking Why does man develop the space? His words bring the audience to the mysterious deep space. He acquainted the audience with the objectives of the first phase of China's moon probe program (probing around the moon), the Chang'e No. 1 Satellite development and major achievements.
He said, Developing aerospace is imperative for exploiting high-position resources, environmental resources, energy resources, mineral resources and information resources. The deep space will become the fourth living space for man to explore after the exploration of land, ocean and space. He also presented the key technologies involved in the second phase of the moon probe program namely landing and its third phase namely returning and then described the long-term blueprints and technical approaches to China's deep space exploration.
Finally, Academician Ye recommended the Chang'e Spirit of the team of young scientists and engineers who are implementing the Chang'e Program: devotion to China, active and enthusiastic willing to do small things and full of teamwork spirit. He hopes that the students here can seriously learn such spirit, study hard and obtain ability to contribute to the development of the country.
