On April 24 the ceremony for the 2009 Figures of Scientific Chinese was held in Beijing, and it was announced that Professor Zhu Xiaoping, chief engineer of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Research Institute at NPU, and Professor Song Baowei, dean of College of Marine Engineering, were elected as the 2009 Figures of Scientific Chinese.
The yearly Figures of Scientific Chinese aims at honoring those who devote themselves to scientific research and technical innovation achieve scientific research breakthroughs and have great influence on China's scientific and technological advancement. The 2009 Figures were recommended and reviewed by the Expert Committee of the Figures of Scientific Chinese and elected through Internet balloting. Thus 46 scientists won this title. NPU Standing Vice President Zheng Ya was present at the ceremony.
