Following the Civil Engineering graduate student English Corner event, on May 28, a series of activities were launched in the first quarter. According to Dr. Yousif s proposal the School of Civil Engineering s doctoral students, teachers, and Liang Jie Ni of the International Office led teachers and students from Pakistan, Uzbekistan and other countries along with level eleven doctoral students of the School of Civil Engineering to visit the Chengdu Metro Line 2 construction site. The following article was written by Dr. Yousif after his visit.
On May 28, 2010, the civil engineering school arranged a visit to the Chengdu Metro site. We were received warmly by Mr. Li Runze and others and were informed of the design for the Chengdu Metro line 2. The railway tunnel site was opened to us and we oversaw the drilling that was being performed.
The following information regards the Chengdu metro and China railways 13 and 14.
Chengdu is planning an underground Metro network with 7 lines, totalling 274.15km. Estimated date of completion is 2035. As follows:
Line 1: Dafeng to Guangdu, 31.6km (underground 22.44km, aboveground 9.16km), 23 stations (18 underground stations, 5 elevated stations).
Line 2: Longquandong to Shiniu, 50.65km (underground 17.45km, aboveground33.2km), 26 stations (15 underground stations, 11 elevated stations).
Line 3: Hongxin Chezhan to Banqiaonan, 49.28km (underground 15.59km, aboveground 33.69km), 22 stations (11 underground stations, 11 elevated stations).
Line 4: Wenjiang to Xihe, 38.9km (underground 20.21km, aboveground 18.69km), 19 stations (11 underground stations, 8 elevated stations).
Line 5: Simaqiao to Jianghe, 24.63km (underground 17.9km, aboveground 6.73km), 13 stations (11 underground stations, 2 elevated stations).
Line 6: main line: Shawan to Sihe,22.05km (underground 15.5km, aboveground6.55km), 13 stations (11 underground stations, 2 elevated stations).
Line 6 branch line: Bolichang to Shuangliu Airport, 15.11km (underground 5.52km, aboveground 9.59km), 8 stations (4 underground stations, 4 elevated stations).
Line 7: Shengtai to Longtandong , 41.93km (underground 29.63km, aboveground12.3km), 22 stations (17 underground stations, 5 elevated stations).
Lines 1 and 2, total length 82.25km, will be opened before 2014. Phase 1 of line 1 (16km, 15 stations) will be in trial operation on March 2010 and its formal opening will be on 1 Oct 2010. Work began in Dec. 2005.

The China railway 13 bureau group second engineering company constructed the second line from Chengdu metro.
The company used German drilling machines which allowed for a capacity of 80mm/min and pressure 3 bar.
The constructed two ways and about 2km from line 2 to yet. The circle rail way tunnel constructed by precast concrete at the depth around 14m under the ground and with the diameter of about 12 m.
The china railway 14 bureau group second engineering company constructed the station on line 2. We noticed the method to treat the leakage of concrete.
Also the company changed the direction of the line because there is a civilian s house which conflicts.
We were all very interested with this visit. We are grateful to the civil engineering school, the company groups, Miss Liang, and Miss Ni who helped us too much during our stay.
Thanks
