The 20th Nanke Academic Salons, an exclusive interview with academician HE Jingtang, was held on Nov. 2 in the Academic Hall of SCUT, South Campus. HE Jingtang is the chief architect of China Pavilion for World Expo 2010.
During the interview, HE Jingtang introduced his unique architectural ideas and outstanding designs. Take the China Pavilion for World Expo 2010 for example, it includes many Chinese traditional elements, and embodies the concepts of Chinese culture, such as the unification of Heaven and man, and Great Harmony or datong. HE Jingtang said, "It is a unity of traditional culture and modern spirit, and its moral implication has trascended its actual functional capability."
Students still lingered around the hall after the interview. Zhang, a freshman, said "This interview renewed my understanding of happiness." And another student Li said, "Though I am not a student of architecture, I am still enlightened by Prof. HE's ideas, and inspired a lot on my scientific research and academic progress."
