Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge - Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities (HZMB-HKBCF) International Design Ideas Competition, co-organized by Highways Department of Hong Kong Special Administration Region, Hong Kong Institute of Architects, Hong Kong Institute of Planners and etc., concluded recently. Waves, designed by YANG Yimin, WU Liang, LIN Xincheng, and HE Yuxin from School of Architecture of SCUT, won the First Prize of Open Group. This is the only work of mainland China that wins the prize and whose designers are all students.
WU Liang, a junior from School of Architecture majoring in Landscape Design, is the team leader of this design. To make the design more humane, the four team members visited Hong Kong specially to identify themselves with the anxious passenger, thus forming a preliminary design: "The customs district is marked by heavy passenger flow and complicated procedures. We used space truss structure to enhance efficiency and increase ventilation and ecological elements so as to reduce the feeling of fatigue."

Half of the participators are from overseas, including Holland, Switzerland, Russia, India, Egypt, Rumania, Jordan and etc. Having been evaluated by the international judge panel composed of design experts, 10 entries got into the final round. Five of them won the First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize and Merit Entries of Open Group, and the other five won the First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize and Merit Entries of Professional Group.
