On the afternoon of April 22, the release ceremony of book series, China Pavilion for Shanghai Expo 2010, HE Jingtang, Architectural Life and HE Jingtang, Architectural Designs, was held on the 11th floor of Liwu Technology Building, SCUT.
China Pavilion for Shanghai Expo 2010 is a detailed record of the whole process of China Pavilion designing and constructing. The design and construction concept and cultural implication are elucidated from nine angles with exquisite pictures creating visual impact. HE Jingtang, Architectural Life biographically records the life, creation philosophy, education theory and designs of Master HE Jingtang, introducing his rich architectural experience and classic designs. HE Jingtang, Architectural Designs, which includes My Architecture Life written by HE Jingtang himself and representative designs of his team, presents the developmental process of HE Jingtang's architectural thoughts. It is reported that this book series, published by South China University of Technology Press, will be sold during Shanghai World Expo.
In the subsequent press conference, the present Chinese architecture masters' witty remarks revealed the excellence of China Pavilion. A journalist asked whether China Pavilion should be more fashionable. To this question, HE Jingtang answered that he would rather put more emphasis on the historical responsibility China Pavilion bears: China, as the host of 2010 Expo, is to present to the world what Chinese architecture really is.
"Today is the most unforgettable day ever!" HE Jingtang said, "China Pavilion is of historic significance. I wish to thank our country and our time for giving me this great opportunity. It is also a heavy responsibility." He said thanks repeatedly and made a special mention of his teachers and students. "I love architecture, love it dearly indeed! Just because I am the leader, all the honors are on me. But actually, no work can be done without teamwork. The honor belongs to our team, to everybody on the team!"
HE Jingtang, chief designer of China Pavilion, is a well-known architect, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and expert on architecture design and theory. He has initiated the innovative architectural designing philosophy, that is, the concept of wholism and sustainable development, and the character of region, culture and epoch.
He has served as the chief designer of hundreds of major projects, including Western Han Nanyue King Museum, Opium War Sea Battle Museum, Shenzhen Science Museum, expansion project of Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall, and China Pavilion for Shanghai Expo 2010.
