On May 7, 2009 Guangdong Science and Technology Awarding Ceremony was held by Guangdong provincial party committee and government for the advanced technology workers and outstanding achievements of the year. 271 technology awards are presented, among which there are 1 Grand Prize, 29 First Prizes, 76 Second Prizes and 171 Third Prizes.
In total, SCUT was granted 24 awards, including 1 Grand Prize, 5 First Prizes (for 4 of which SCUT serves as the first unit who completed them), 4 Second Prizes (for 2 of which SCUT serves as the first unit who completed them), and 14 Third Prizes (for 6 of which SCUT serves as the first unit who completed them).
The first person that completed the first prize achievements including Prof. WANG Yingjun, Prof. WEI Gang, Prof. TANG Yong and Prof. LI Di, attended the conference and received the awards. Vice-president ZHANG Xichun, accompanied by personnel from Science and Technology Division of the University, was also present in the conference.
"Key Generic Technology and Its Application of Hierarchical Porous Materials Preparation", accomplished by the research group led by Prof. WANG Yingjun, is awarded First Prize of Technological Invention Category.
"Basic Theory of Short Distance and High-speed Wireless Network", accomplished by the research group led by Prof. WEI Gang, is awarded First Prize of Natural Sciences Category.
"Key Manufacture Technique and Its Application of Functional Surface Structures for Heat Transfer", accomplished by the research group led by Prof. TANG Yong, and "Generic Technology and Its Application of Advanced Equipment Control and Testing", accomplished by the research group led by Prof. LI Di, are awarded First Prize of Science and Technological Progress Category.
Apart from all these, "Innovative Practice of Construction and Management of Guangdong Science Center", with SCUT being a participant, is awarded Grand Prize. "Application of Energy-saving, Environmental-protection and Digital Technology in the Intensive Construction of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center", with the research group led by Prof. HUA Ben being a participant, is awarded First Prize of Science and Technological Progress Category.
