Boccia Started in the Stadium of SYSU Yesterday
On December 13, Boccia of Asian Para Games started in the stadium of SYSU. 66 disabled athletes from 12 countries including China will compete for six days until December 18 for the four gold medals.
Six Games Held Simultaneously
Boccia is one of the three special Paralympic events that do not have corresponding games in Olympic Games. The athletes of the event all suffer from Severe cerebral palsy, Severe physical disabilities or other similar illnesses that need them to sit on the wheelchair. The games are divided into four levels according the severity of their illness. Boccia is a test of muscle control and accuracy, requiring high focus and concentration. The goal of the sport is to throw/bowl game balls so they land as close as possible to a special target ball, the 'jack'. It is played on a marked court, usually with a hard surface and the athletes all sit on the wheelchairs. The game requires little physical movements and more skills. It helps to cure the disabled both mentally and physically.
To meet with the requirements of Boccia, the team of SYSU stadium started to prepare for the Asian Para Games soon after the Men s Volleyball of Asian Games. In cooperation with the Committee of Asian Para Games, they changed the scene and built obstacle-free structures.
