Men s Basketball Team of HNU Embraces Its Fourth Championship

On the evening of Nov.12^th, men s basketball team of HNU beat host basketball team of National University of Defence Technology 67-53 and won the championship in the finals of the 7^th Hunan Postgraduate Men s Basketball League held in the gymnasium of National University of Defence Technology. This is our team s forth success within 5 years.

Preceded by a splendid opening dance performed by students of PhysicalCollege, the competition started in full swing. At the very beginning of the game, NUDT scored first. Team members of our university were also brave and unwilling to show white feathers. They quickly turned the tide by an impressive 3-point shot. Though NUDT got two successive scores after that, Wan Yingjie, our No.14 player, launched a fierce attack in the inner circle. He scored first by driving lay up and then made one foul shot, thus tying the score. Our team members continually intensified the attack in the limited remaining time and sealed the first quarter by 21-16.

Not long after the beginning of the second quarter, our No.8 player Han Jinzhu climaxed the game by an exquisite smash, which encouraged the whole team and brought the score to 9-2.When the first half came to its end, our team took the lead 45-35.

At the beginning of the second half, NUDT got the score first. However, our team controlled the whole match and made the margin remain beyond 10 points. The third quarter finished 56-42, with our team 14 points far ahead.

In the last quarter, team of NUDT continued their intensified attack. Under such pressure, our team attached more importance to defense and teamwork, leaving no chance for the counterattack of their rivals. As the game going on, the margin enlarged.

Five minutes before the last quarter when main players went to have a rest, cheer team and their funs greeted them with enthusiastic applause. Though NUDT spared no efforts to rescue itself, the game ended with a fixed score of 67-53.

A prize-awarding ceremony was held after the game. The first prize went to men s basketball team of HNU, followed by teams from National University of Defence Technology, Hunan University of Science and Technology and CentralSouthUniversity. Besides, Wan Yingjie was awarded as the best athlete, while Guo Zhiqiang and Liu Boqing excellent players.

Shen Jiyun, the deputy director-general of Department of Education of Hunan province, awarded prizes to the winners.
