On April 6 to 7, Mr. Lai Ying Kam and his wife Mrs. Lai Leung Sook Gee, advisors of Si Yuan Foundation in Hongkong, visited HUST.
The Awarding Ceremony of Si Yuan Scholarship was held at the International Academic Exchange Center on the afternoon of April 6. Dong Yuejuan, a student from the College of Public Administration, was offered the scholarship with her schoolmates. The Lais awarded the certificates to the winners.
On the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Lai gave some gifts to each member of Si Yuan Society to show their care about them. In return for this, the students presented their handmade arm cushions and wishing stars. They wish the couple good health and long lives.
On the morning of April 7, HUST President Li Peigen met the Lais at the VIP room of Building 1. Mr. and Mrs. Lai introduced the background of Si Yuan Foundation to the President and explained their aim of the scholarship and financial support. As he said, the purpose of their financial support was not only offering economic help, but encouragement to the students as well. They hoped the students would not feel inferior and should know to be thankful in the future, therefore they could reward the country and the society. In this way, he hoped, the students could be introduced to build their responsibility to the society and to the country.
After the meeting, the Lais visited a few sites of the campus in the company of President Li Peigen including the South 1 Square, the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, and the Yunyuan Students' Dormitory Buildings where the supported students live.
