A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu in northwestern China's Qinghai Province at 7:49 am April 14, which has left 2,064 people killed, 175 people still missing and 12,135 people injured.
After hearing the news, staff and students keep a close eye on Yushu and immediately involve in quake-relief action.
The University released a notice calling for full efforts in the quake relief work, and asked all schools and departments to call on and help those students from the quake-hit areas as well as students whose homeland suffered from sever drought in Southwest China.
The medical teams from Tongji and Union hospital headed for Yushu on the afternoon of April 15, initiating the quake relief rescue work.
Huagong Tech has donated 500,000 yuan in cash to Yushu through the Ministry of Civil Affairs to contribute to the reconstruction work after the disaster, hoping people of the quake area will get over the disaster and rebuild their homes soon.
In addition, the School of Hydropower and Information Engineering, the affiliated elementary school, Department of Physical Education, School of Life Science and Engineering, Academic Affairs Office, the School of Second Clinical Medicine, School of Management and other organizations have also raised donations. Part of the donations have been sent to the Chinese Red Cross.
