Four medical experts from Technical University of Munich came to Wuhan and joined the Sino-German Medical Exchange Week lasting from June 13 to June 20. Together with the experts from Union Hospital, they staged demonstration operations and case discussions, which were viewed and emulated by colleagues from inside and outside of the province.

This activity involved three clinical departments, namely general surgery, plastic surgery and department of orthopedics & traumatology. The week-long academic exchange covered a series of activities for Chinese and German experts, including department-by-department large-scale academic report conferences, clinical ward rounds, case discussions, demonstrative operations and joint application for research projects. The demonstrative operations were specially arranged in the Department of General Surgery and Department of Orthopedics.

On June 16, the inauguration ceremony for Pancreatic Diseases Research Institute was held in Union Hospital. The occasion was also a grand academic meeting displaying the latest domestic and international development in the diagnosis and treatment in general surgery. It initiated the bilateral collaboration in pancreatic disease research between medical communities of the two countries.

The Sino-German Medical Exchange Week was the second large-scale academic exchange activity following the establishment of partnership between Union Hospital and Technical University of Munich. In December 2009, the first hospital symposium between Union Hospital and Rechts der Isar Hospital was held successfully.
