Eyes of the Beholder Liu Xiangui

Liu Xiangui was born in 1951 in Fengjiayu Village, Miyun County of Beijing. Mountains and rivers, as well as poverty and hard work, were the companions of his childhood and adolescence.

Liu began work as a teacher in 1969. He set eyes on a camera for the first time in his life in 1972. The camera became his best friend. Later he worked in the cultural affairs and tourism bureaus of Miyun County until he retired. But the long thread carried throughout his life, and the thing that absorbed all his spare time was the camera and his photographs.

Miyun is the perennial theme of Liu's works. A deep love and understanding of the place lends his photos a tender humanity and poetic beauty.

Liu's works are characterized by grand vistas and vibrant colors. His extraordinary mastery of light and composition makes his photos arresting and impressive. His powerful works leave viewers refreshed and inspired.
