Liu began work as a teacher in 1969. He set eyes on a camera for the first time in his life in 1972. The camera became his best friend. Later he worked in the cultural affairs and tourism bureaus of Miyun County until he retired. But the long thread carried throughout his life, and the thing that absorbed all his spare time was the camera and his photographs.

Miyun is the perennial theme of Liu's works. A deep love and understanding of the place lends his photos a tender humanity and poetic beauty.
