The Omani Ministry of Tourism has announced a boom in the Oman cruise sector in 2010-2011.
There has been a 72% year-on-year increase in the number of cruise ships and tourists docking at Muscat s Port Sultan Qaboos during the 2010-2011 cruising season. There have been a total of 94 cruise ships that visited Muscat and passenger arrivals reached 231,100. Salem Al Mamari, director general of Tourism Promotion, Ministry of Tourism, Sultanate of Oman, was quoted in Travel Daily Middle East as having said that the results were pleasing, especially considering that passenger arrivals to Muscat in 2007 were just 44,855.
Oman is slowly being recognised as the preferred cruise destination with more and more tour companies including Muscat in their travel itineraries.
