On July 12, Minister Han Changfu met with the delegation of Dom nguez, Argentine Minister of Agriculture, Fishery and Food, who came to China with President Cristina Fern ndez for a state visit. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening agricultural cooperation.
Han Changfu spoke highly of the relations of agricultural cooperation between the two countries, in favor of Argentina s assumption of enhancing collaboration in relevant areas. He then made five suggestions with respect to further deepening the agricultural partnership. First, the function of China-Argentina Joint Committee on Agricultural Cooperation should be brought into full play in order to lead, coordinate and promote the development of agricultural cooperation; second, we should continue to make use of China-Argentina Biotechnology Working Group to strengthen biotechnological cooperation; third, we should take great effort to expand fishery cooperation and raise it to a new level; fourth, we should enhance technological cooperation between the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the National Academy of Agricultural Technologies of Argentina; fifth, we should give a full play to complementarities in agriculture between the two countries as an effort to strengthen agricultural trade cooperation. The two sides agreed to implement cooperation in the areas concerned through consultation between technology departments of the two countries.
Minister Dom nguez introduced Argentina s agricultural growth and strategic planning of agricultural food for 2010-2016, with a strong hope of strengthening agricultural ties with China. He said that the state visit to China this time with President Cristina could hopefully help deepen China-Argentina agricultural cooperation and achieve a real breakthrough in such areas as fisheries, agricultural scientific research and agricultural trade.
