TCL Corporation Achieves Brand Value of RMB 45.808 billion and Honored as China s #1 Color TV Brand

SHANGHAI September 15, 2010 In the 16th annual report of the top 100 most valuable brands in China, TCL maintained the title of China s No. 1 Color TV Brand. The report also indicates that TCL has become the enterprise with the fastest growing brand status during the last 16 years, with a current brand value of RMB 45.808 billion. TCL s brand value has increased 66 times in value over fifteen years since 1995, when it was valued at RMB 0.69 billion.

Among the top ten most valuable brands, home appliance brands such as TCL, Haier, Lenovo, GOME, and Midea account for nearly half the list. Moreover, research conducted over a span of sixteen years indicates that famous Chinese home appliance brands, such as TCL, have already entered into the top ten list over the last several years.

The rapid development of these excellent home appliance brands is representative of Chinese enterprises that have, as a whole, become self-owned brands, developing over the past 30 years of national reform. From the perspective of brand value, these companies are representative of the development and change in China s economy.

In a brand research study, R&F Global Ranking reports that the average market sales volume only reached RMB 1.958 billion for the top 80 brands. Now, the average market sales volume is RMB 15.073 billion for the top 100 brands. This indicates that these 15 years are a prime time for Chinese enterprises to try to establish self-owned brands and gain rapid development.

Post financial crisis, Chinese brands were met with a historical opportunity for international development, in face of global enterprise integration and shuffling. The Go Global strategy is a significant step made by Chinese brand enterprises in their mission of expansion and sustainable development.

Enterprises represented by Lenovo and TCL have been achieving international recognition through establishing competitive advantages in the global market. From 1999 till now, the total turnover of TCL rose from RMB 8.8 billion to RMB 44.295 billion, with an annual average growth rate of 17.5%.

According to Liang Qichun, general manager of Brand Management Center of TCL Corporation, despite steady development in China s home appliance industry during the past 30 years, there is still a gap between China s home appliance brands compared to international companies. TCL is thus perpetually playing the catch-up role. Only by accelerating the pace of scientific and technological innovation, expanding market, and providing innovative products to global consumers can a truly global brand be borne in China s home appliance industry.

Sales report from August indicate that TCL Communication has sold more than 20 million mobile phones and more than 4.2 million LCD TVs in the global market, marking its first entry into the list of Global Top Ten sales of mobile phones. This also illustrates the brand s influence in emerging markets overseas, which gained rapid growth.

Currently, the market share of TCL brand color TV in Vietnam, Indonesia and Argentina have maintained its position in the top three; the market share of TCL air conditioning products in Iran, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Algeria is ranked in the top five; in other regions, the top three.

In addition to market expansion, TCL also promotes the company s brand value through sponsoring major sports events. As a partner of the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, TCL will launch a new round of brand promotion projects through the Asian Games. TCL will provide sponsorship in various areas by providing display devices (including TV, LED large screen, Monitoring devices, mobile TV, etc) and product technology solutions for Guangzhou Asian Games. Financial and technical support aside, TCL will offer its optimistic service to the games.
