ZSTU sponsored the Seventh National Symposium on College English Teaching via Newspapers and Magazines

The seventh National Symposium on College English Teaching via Newspapers and Magazines came to a successful end the other day. It was hosted by the National Research Committee on College English Teaching via Newspapers and Magazines and sponsored by the College of Foreign Language of ZSTU.

The National Research Committee on College English Teaching from Newspapers and Magazines was established in 1998 in order to enhance the academic exchange in and improve college English teaching via newspapers and magazines. Six symposiums have been successfully held so far.

Vice president of ZSTU made the opening remark and the introduction of the development of ZSTU in recent years in the opening ceremony was held in Days Hotel & Suites, Hangzhou on Oct. 17^th. Professor Duanmu Yiwan gave the work report which reviewed, analyzed, summarized and looked into the future of the college English teaching via newspapers and magazines. The leading group of the committee also included more members in this symposium.

Professor Zhou Xueyi from Peking University, Professor Wu Qianlong from Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Zhang Weiping from People s University of China, Professor Hao Yannan from Hohai University and Professor Xu Xihua from ZSTU all gave excellent keynote speeches on how to strengthen the ability to teach English via newspapers and improve the research in the language of newspapers and magazines.

All the attending delegates shared experience and ideas of teaching via newspapers and magazines, summed up the achievements made in the last few years and pointed out the difficulties and problems in the teaching process in the group discussion next day.

In the closing ceremony, Professor Zhou Xueyi appealed to people of insight to improve English teaching via newspapers and magazines and thanked ZSTU for its careful organization of the symposium.
