The 24th Guangdong Adolescent Science & Technology Innovation Contest Held in Zhanjiang

The 24th Guangdong Adolescent Science & Technology Innovation Contest is held in Zhanjiang Normal University, co-sponsored by Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Association, Guangdong Provincial Education Department, Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Department, Guangdong Provincial IP Office and Zhanjiang Municipal People's Government.

The theme of the contest is Experience, Innovation and Growth. There are 1,165 projects collected from 22 delegations.

After strict preliminaries and finals, the jury gives the final result: innovation projects with 57 first prizes, 118 second prizes and 165 third prizes; fictional drawings with 30 first prizes, 55 second prizes and 103 third prizes; S&T practice activity award with 15 first prizes, 36 second prizes and 53 third prizes; 15 projects winning patent application award; 10 teachers honored the title of excellent teacher; and 43 units granted the title of excellent organization unit.

Besides, among the 57 first prizes of innovation projects, 17 are selected to participate in the 24th China Adolescent Science and Technology Innovation Contest (CASTIC) in Ji'nan, capital of Shandong Province, in July. Each of the 15 patent inventions is presented certificate and RMB 600 Yuan and 41 selected projects are funded to apply for patent right.

The CASTIC is known to be a demonstrating and guiding S&T educational activity for all the on-campus primary and middle school students, which is the largest and highest-level one in this country. This activity focuses on cultivating children's creative thinking, creative ability, ability of practice, comprehensive ability and team spirit, playing an important role in improving the overall quality of middle school students and primary school pupils.

Guangdong IP Administration set up the patent application award at the 23rd Adolescent Science and Technology Innovation Contest in this province for the first time.

Some officials and experts from the relevant departments attend the opening ceremony of the contest. They include Lu Zhonghe, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and chairman of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Association, Liang Ming, secretary of the CPC in Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Association, Yan Zhichan, vice-secretary of CPC Zhanjiang Municipal Committee, Liu Renhuai, academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Liu Yumin, inspector with Guangdong Provincial Department of Education , and Zhu Wanchang, deputy director of Guangdong Provincial IP Office.
