At the joint invitation of Mr. Li Deshui, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS) and Mr. Xie Xuren, Commissioner of the State Administration of Taxation of China (SAT), a three-person-delegation composed by Mr. Pink, Government Statistician of Statistics New Zealand, Mr. David Butler, Commissioner and Chief Executive of Inland Revenue, Inland Revenue Department of New Zealand and Mr. Vince Galvin, General Manager, Department of Strategies and Communications of Statistics New Zealand visited China from 28 July to 3 August 2005.
On the morning of 1 August 2005, Commissioner Li Deshui of NBS and Deputy Commissioner Wang Li of SAT met the New Zealand Delegation together. After the meeting, two commissioners of Chinese side jointly chaired the presentations given by Messrs. Pink and Butler respectively. The contents of their presentations cover statistical legislation of New Zealand, construction and maintenance of business register, cooperation between Statistics New Zealand and Inland Revenue Department of New Zealand. With regard to the future cooperation between National Bureau of Statistics of China and Statistics New Zealand, Messrs. Li Deshui and Pink agreed that both sides would make joint efforts to the cooperation in terms of holding the 2008 IAOS Conference in Shanghai, statistical coordination mechanism between the central statistical agency and other governmental agencies, social statistics, statistical education and training. During their stay in Beijing, NBS staff also gave the delegation some introductions to the developmental strategy of statistical work of NBS, statistical legislation and coordination of activity across the Chinese governments, data processing and statistical capability building, etc. Other Deputy Commissioners of NBS such as Messrs. Lin Xianyu, Xu Yifan and Ms. Zhang Guorong participated in the presentations as well. |
