The Road Upgrading Project to be undertaken by the 17th China Metallurgical Construction Co., Ltd. (17MCC) in Ethiopia was officially commenced recently.
The Contract III for Construction Works of Aposto-Wondo-Negele Road Upgrading Project was signed by 17MCC directly with Ethiopian Government as the general contractor. This was not only the very first project undertaken by 17MCC in Ethiopia, but also the first large-scale expressway project to be carried out by 17MCC on EPC basis in this country. The road to be upgraded under Contract III (from Wadera to Negele) is 600 km away from the capital city of Addis Ababa, measuring an overall length of 65.3 km and a roadbed width of 10m. The project covers the upgrading works and the construction works for the bypass, the protection facilities and the sign posts. The Employer of this project is Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA), and the funds will be financed by World Bank.
