Prof. Sun's invited lecture was part of the 60th Anniversary celebration activities of DICP. On 31st July, Prof. Sun delivered his lecture with the title of "Visible Light Driven Water Oxidation Catalyzed by Molecular Ru Complexes in Homogeneous Systems" at the lecturing venue of the State Key Laboratory of Catalysis of DICP.
In his lecture, Prof. Sun introduced recent progresses in studies of hydrogen generation via solar photo-catalysis, as well as development of dye-stuff sensitized solar batteries, with emphasis on the research work of his research teams both in KTH and in Dalian University of Technology(DUT), China, which involved oxygen releasing from water decomposition by photo-catalysis.
The lecturing session was presided over by Prof. LI Can, Member of CAS and Vice-Director of DICP. Prof. LIN Liwu and Prof. HE Guozhong, both Member of CAS, also attended the lecturing session. About 50 DICP scientists and graduate students were present in the lecturing activity, and active discussions were carried out between the lecturer and the audience on the subject of solar energy catalysis.
After the lecture, Prof. LI Can presented to Prof. Sun an Honorary Lecturing Certificate for the Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of DICP on behalf of the institute.
Prof. Sun is at present a Changjiang Scholarship Professor of the State Ministry of Education of China. He was also the winner of the Outstanding Youth Award of China. He works as referee of papers for internationally famous journals such as Angew. Chem., Chem. Commun., Chem. Eur. J., Dalton Trans., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Inorg. Chem., J. Phys. Chem., J. Org. Chem., and Langmuir.
Prof. Sun's research interests mainly concern artificial photo-synthesis and conversion of solar energy. His research accomplishments have contributed significantly for the direct conversion of solar energy into fuels by means of bio-engineering. Besides his research in KTH, he has also established an active research team in DUT of China.
