Ten years ago, the exploiters of Wangcheng County opened up the barren land on the southeast corner of Wangcheng County with the 280,000 yuan drawn from the public finance. Ten years later, the total industrial output value of Wangcheng Economic Development Zone (EDZ) soared to 20 billion yuan. Entrepreneurs there are aiming for the 100 billion yuan target and striving to build it into a national economic development zone.
In 2010, the total industrial output value and tax revenue of the zone hit 20 billion yuan and 1 billion yuan respectively. It ranks at the forefront among the 76 provincial-level development zones across Hunan in terms of industrial output, taxation and other major economic indicators, and is acclaimed the "Top 10 Industrial Zones with the Most Investment Value in Hunan". At present, the zone assembles such renowned brands as Want Want Group, Anheuser-Busch InBev and Ausnutria Dairy, forming 3 leading industrial clusters of food processing, intensive processing & advanced manufacturing of nonferrous materials and modern trade & logistics.
According to the plan, Wangcheng EDZ strives to be a national development zone during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period. It also aims at a total revenue of 100 billion yuan from technology, industry and trade, a financial tax of 4 billion yuan, and over 30,000 new job opportunities.
