November 19, at Dalian Bangchui Island Hotel, Xia Deren, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Liaoning Committee and secretary of the Dalian Party Committee, and Mayor Li Wancai met with a party and government delegation from Nagqu, Tibet, headed by Penba Tashi, secretary of Nagqu Prefecture's Party Committee and director of People's Congress Working Committee.
Xia and Li welcomed the delegation, extended their congratulations on the achievements Nagqu has had in economic and social development through years of struggle and unity of cadres and people from various nationalities, and extended their appreciation to them for educating and training Dalian s cadres supporting Tibet. Xia said that though thousands of miles separate Dalian and Tibet in distance, Dalian people have deep feelings for Tibetan people. In the Hand-in-Hand Aid programme, the Central Party Committee assigned Dalian a glorious political task: to set up the partnership with Nagqu. For many years, in accordance with requirements from the Central Party Committee, the State Council, the Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Provincial Government, Dalian has seriously implemented aid for the Tibet drive, not only economically, but also in personnel and cadre training, from which Dalian has benefited a lot. The cadres sent to aid Tibet have withstood various tests, have become well trained and have rapidly grown up.In future, Dalian will carry out the spirit of the Forum on Work in Tibet by the Central Government to increase economic aid, project aid and intellectual aid to Tibet, making new contributions to leapfrog economic and social development and to the long-term stability of Tibet.
Penba Tashi thanked Dalian people for their deep feelings, selfless assistance and support for Tibetan people and the people of Sog County, Nagqu over the years. He spoke highly of 40 cadres sent from Dalian to aid Tibet during these years. He said that under the bad conditions of high-cold and oxygen deficit, Dalian s cadres have performed excellently their special duty of maintaining stability, promoting development and training Tibetan teams, setting good examples with their perfect political quality, high spirit and down-to-earth work style and making outstanding contributions to the economic development of Sog County, Tibet s social stability and national unity . Municipal leaders Song Shanyun and Wang Ping, Nagqu regional leaders Lei Youjian and Yao Shaoliang attended the meeting.
